Things to do in Playa in October

There are three unique events going on in Playa del Carmen in October of this year:  Complimentary golf at El Camaleon Mayakoba Golf Course, The Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival, the Tulum Sea Turtle Festival, and Halloween/Days of the Dead Celebrations (in spanish it’s Dia de los Muertos).

Complimentary golf at El Camaleon Mayakoba Golf Course
El Camaleon blends three distinct landscapes – tropical jungle, dense mangroves, and oceanfront stretches of sandy beach. Book 5 days or more at El Taj Condo Hotel at Playa del Carmen during September or October, and receive two days of complimentary golf for two people at El Camaleon Golf Club located at the world famous Mayakoba Resort in Playa del Carmen. The Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival,  October 6 – 9.
The 4th annual film festival, takes advantage of the international community of Playa, and is respresented by many Europeans and South Americans of Documentaries and Short Films (Animation, Experimental, and Fiction) also  offers workshops and conferences on cinematography and filmmaking. Website: RMUFF  It’s open to the public and is free. More film festivals in Mexico.

The Sea Turtle Festival October 13 – 16
Another annual event, the Sea Turtle Festival provides eductional seminars and games, activities and  a fun way to learn about this endangered species and what organizations are doing to protect Sea Turtles and the environment. This year is the inauguration of Stained Glass Bottles made to reflect the protection of sea turtles. This Free event is great for kids, families, and environmentalists.

Days of the Dead, Dia de los Muertos, takes place October 30 – November 2
Halloween means parties, costumes and fun in Playa del Carmen.  Bars and restaurants offer costume parties and contests for locals and tourists.  Days of the Dead is a popular cultural event that begins November 1 and celebrates the deceased with offerings of food and lights.  This respectful time is considered a begining for a new life for spirits that have passed on.
