What’s so Great about Playa del Carmen? Let’s start with the beaches.

There’s a lot of beaches in the world, and my favorites include Nice, Cannes, Bondi, Surfer’s Paradise, Laguna, Santa Monica, Coronado, Naples, Siesta Key, Sitges/Barcelona, and Playa del Carmen/Tulum.

There’s more to Playa than beaches, but wherever I go I love to walk the beach – for hours and hours, so Cabo, as beautiful as it is, doesn’t keep me coming back because you can only walk short distances of beach. I like having lots of bars and restaurants on the beach- not redneck places, but places where you can order a cerveza or a glass of wine.

I want water that is crystal clear and blue, not green or brown. I want that water to be warm enough to cool me off, but not overly warm. I like to people watch as I walk the beach and I am really not interested in seeing/hearing drunk college kids. When I have tired of walking and want a grilled grouper sandwich or ceviche (on the beache) and to rest my weary bones, I want a place that welcomes me and offers umbrellas for shade.
